Eternal
Information
summer, year 3
Thick ice and continuously falling snow blanket the entirety of Eternal, brought upon by Noc's wrath. Shelter is scarce, and food even scarcer. There is no climate or biome that was lucky enough to find themselves safe from the beginnings of the Ice Age and so the residents of Eternal must don their primal survival instincts and to just that ─ survive. Ice blockages have grown supernaturally between the islands, blocking Sunsteppe from Sol and Eventide from Noc, effectively trapping each islander on whichever island they currently stand. The Dragonfrost and dusk leopards from Gleamleaf and greater boreus deer from Mountainfade have seeped into all of Noc, Eventide's spectors and Sunsteppe's sculptors have overrun the central island, and the wolves, Ice Piskys, and Creeping Thistle have invaded all of Sol.
OOC announcements
10.12.18 Noc has descended from the stars, and the reunion with his children, the three deities, is anything but happy. The whole of Eternal has been plunged into an Ice Age, and it seems that, for now, it's up to the deities to restore the islands. Will they be able to do so quickly enough? Or will the residents of Eternal know suffering because of the mishaps spread between Helios, Imbris, and Aya? For now, ice blockages have been erected between the islands, meaning that everyone is stuck where they currently are. Where is your character? Tell us here.

10.4.18 Whatever unknown thing that invaded the southern territories in the middle of spring has snaked its icy fingers out and enveloped those remaining territories that everyone had believed (or hoped) to be safe. Wolves, Creeping Thistle, Pesky Piskys, Blackrock's river... Not even Sunsteppe is safe from the intrusion, though it appears -- at least for now -- that the Wreckage remains untouched. Perhaps it should be investigated?

9.17.18 Something isn't right. Eternal still refuses to warm, even as we progress through spring and near summer. The southernmost territories have begun to notice some changes: from Greater Boreus Deer in Mountainfade, to Dragonfrost in Gleamleaf; frozen sandstorms in Astraldune, and even icy wraiths in Eventide. What happened? And what can be done to return the islands to normal?

9.2.18 Springtime has come, but the frigid winter still remains, enveloping the three islands in ice, snow and brutal wind. There are no flowers, nor grass - no foliage at all. The animals are beginning to suffer, as they emerge from hibernation or birth their young, struggling to find sustenance. The air is thick with tension, as a wretched and unforgiving storm brews still in the distance - will Eternal find reprieve from the cold?

8.4.18 Round Three of the To Lands of Old quest has been posted! The remaining participants have one week to get their posts in. Good luck and have fun!

7.27.18 Astraldune is under new leadership! In the wake of Solomon's disappearance, Helios has placed Gryffen into leadership!

6.26.18 Helios has appeared in Sunsteppe! What could he be doing there?

6.19.18 With magic from Imbris, Totem has been gifted with a daughter of her own, molded from clay and infused with a piece of her own soul. Make sure to check out the thread here!

6.1.18: Welcome to Summer!

5.26.18: The Grotto has been unveiled! Imbris paid a visit to Nymphetamine in Prismacove and led him on an underwater adventure to the Grotto, effectively creating a new sub-board for the residents of Prismacove to explore!

PHASE ONE: THE ARRIVAL

The stillness of winter clings to Mountainfade despite the progression of the spring season ─ while Eternal’s unique flora and fauna should be growing more active with the annual budding, the animals instead remain hunkered in their winter dens with no end in sight, and the verdant grasses that usually encircle Mountainfade’s inner lake are just the opposite ─ frosted and brittle and brown.

In the darkness, the Greater Boreus Deer is born from the highest peaks. The herd of antlered ruminants travels down the snow-topped slopes, their hooves falling silently in the midst of their element. Measuring six feet tall at their shoulders, both male and female grow long, sweeping antlers that nearly double their height, though that is hardly the most disconcerting thing about the congregation of ungulates that descends towards the center of Mountainfade.

Made entirely of bright blue ice, like the kind found over clear shallow water, the massive deer ebb with an unusual sapphire glow. Colder temperatures follow them as they move, causing the already brittle grasses behind them to coat in thicker frost and break even in the gentlest breezes. As the deer reach the heart of the territory, their presence swiftly freezes the lake of Mountainfade.

While the sudden appearance of the herd is odd and unsettling, they are relatively harmless. With the same temperament as earth-deer, the Greater Boreus is more likely to flee than to fight ─ but ultimately, they will refuse to leave Mountainfade, and will attack if feeling overly threatened, with only one warning bleat (a noise that sounds like the cracking of ice sheets) to offer before doing so.

Winter does not lessen.
Lell has to wonder if it is like this everywhere or only here in the strong encircling arms of the mountains that she has come to love.

Every mouthful of grass is bitter and she knows that by now it should be sweet and green. But it’s not. So she goes to the lake and finds a thick rind of frost radiating from the land outward towards the lake’s center. Lell strikes at the frost with her hoof repeatedly to no avail - it neither cracks nor caves.

How unnatural!
Her agitation manifests in the somewhat uncontrollable color-changing as she goes from buttercup yellow to ice blue.

It is eerily quiet.
Eerily empty.
It just feels eerie and she cannot shake that feeling - it clings to her as much as the cold does. Lell shivers but even that cannot dispel any of the sensations she is experiencing. One of which is that she now feels as if she is being watched.

With the slow freeze-frame movement a hare has, she begins to turn her head towards whatever it is that’s watching her. Her raincloud-gray eyes widen in surprise as a herd of large deer stare back at her. Their silence is as unnerving as their bright icy glow is. Slowly the ice blue color begins to bleed from her until she’s as pale as snow, leeched of all color by the intense cold she is overwhelmed by and their unnatural presence.

Lell is afraid to snort or speak lest she scare them off.
If they knew all about you,
They'd end up loving you, too.

"Hoarfrost to Astraldune, Aries to Gleamleaf..." she mutters to herself as she roams through the pine-needled forest that surrounds Mountainfade's central lake, trying to work through her options for exposure to their neighboring territories. Furthest from the main island of Eternal, it would do them well to find an ally, or at least the option of an open border agreement, with one of Noc's other rulers, though she is still unsure which. Perhaps both, if feasible, though the horned roan mare is hesitant to lock them in friendly agreements with both other territories if they, themselves, were not on friendly terms.

And so she would need scouts.

Pleased with her decision, Bright releases a quiet snort of satisfaction and watches as it clouds in front of her, reminded once more that they should be nearing the conclusion of spring and yet her lands were still coated with frost, sporting dull brown foliage, and offering them no sustenance or support. She has thinned in the long, cold months, her hipbones protruding rigidly and her face growing gaunt with obvious undernourishment. Soon, she would need to find a way to protect and feed her charges. They could not all go unfed, especially Totem's young daughter. Bright lingers on the idea that there may be someone in Eternal to assist in growing edible plants.

Gnawing at the inside of her lower lip, she sweeps her leonine tail behind her and adjusts her direction so that she still moves through the pine trees, but now her final destination is the lake at the heart of her territory. Her bright yellow eyes fall on Lell's frame stands lakeside, her coat an icy blue color that the roan mare had never seen before. She makes to whinny for the smaller mare, hoping that a conversation will raise the spirits of the usually-buttercup ball of energy that kept them all on their imaginary toes, but Lell's sudden color shift to stark white puts Bright immediately on the offensive.

She moves more quickly now, peeling away from the treeline as her yellow eyes search for whatever Lell had seen. And then her gaze connects with the herd of glowing, translucent deer with their impressively large antlers, and her breath gets caught in her throat. Coming suddenly to a halt, the knabstrupper mare stays tense and silent as she watches their encroachment and the way the lake ices over instantly as they near.

She dares not move or exhale, remaining glued to the spot with her horned head lowered, her yellow eyes shifting between the herd and Lell - ready to sprint for them and protect her buttercup friend if need be.
