Eternal
Information
summer, year 3
Thick ice and continuously falling snow blanket the entirety of Eternal, brought upon by Noc's wrath. Shelter is scarce, and food even scarcer. There is no climate or biome that was lucky enough to find themselves safe from the beginnings of the Ice Age and so the residents of Eternal must don their primal survival instincts and to just that ─ survive. Ice blockages have grown supernaturally between the islands, blocking Sunsteppe from Sol and Eventide from Noc, effectively trapping each islander on whichever island they currently stand. The Dragonfrost and dusk leopards from Gleamleaf and greater boreus deer from Mountainfade have seeped into all of Noc, Eventide's spectors and Sunsteppe's sculptors have overrun the central island, and the wolves, Ice Piskys, and Creeping Thistle have invaded all of Sol.
OOC announcements
10.12.18 Noc has descended from the stars, and the reunion with his children, the three deities, is anything but happy. The whole of Eternal has been plunged into an Ice Age, and it seems that, for now, it's up to the deities to restore the islands. Will they be able to do so quickly enough? Or will the residents of Eternal know suffering because of the mishaps spread between Helios, Imbris, and Aya? For now, ice blockages have been erected between the islands, meaning that everyone is stuck where they currently are. Where is your character? Tell us here.

10.4.18 What?! An October raffle?!?!

10.4.18 Whatever unknown thing that invaded the southern territories in the middle of spring has snaked its icy fingers out and enveloped those remaining territories that everyone had believed (or hoped) to be safe. Wolves, Creeping Thistle, Pesky Piskys, Blackrock's river... Not even Sunsteppe is safe from the intrusion, though it appears -- at least for now -- that the Wreckage remains untouched. Perhaps it should be investigated?

9.17.18 Something isn't right. Eternal still refuses to warm, even as we progress through spring and near summer. The southernmost territories have begun to notice some changes: from Greater Boreus Deer in Mountainfade, to Dragonfrost in Gleamleaf; frozen sandstorms in Astraldune, and even icy wraiths in Eventide. What happened? And what can be done to return the islands to normal?

9.2.18 Springtime has come, but the frigid winter still remains, enveloping the three islands in ice, snow and brutal wind. There are no flowers, nor grass - no foliage at all. The animals are beginning to suffer, as they emerge from hibernation or birth their young, struggling to find sustenance. The air is thick with tension, as a wretched and unforgiving storm brews still in the distance - will Eternal find reprieve from the cold?

8.4.18 Round Three of the To Lands of Old quest has been posted! The remaining participants have one week to get their posts in. Good luck and have fun!

7.27.18 Astraldune is under new leadership! In the wake of Solomon's disappearance, Helios has placed Gryffen into leadership!

6.26.18 Helios has appeared in Sunsteppe! What could he be doing there?

6.19.18 With magic from Imbris, Totem has been gifted with a daughter of her own, molded from clay and infused with a piece of her own soul. Make sure to check out the thread here!

6.1.18: Welcome to Summer!

5.26.18: The Grotto has been unveiled! Imbris paid a visit to Nymphetamine in Prismacove and led him on an underwater adventure to the Grotto, effectively creating a new sub-board for the residents of Prismacove to explore!

Kagayaku Mizumi
The Luminescent Lake

'... How is here?'

The creature looks down at the glimmering water lapping around their front feet; neck lowers slowly as eyes carefully study the bioluminescent algae. A little smile tugs at the corners of soft lips before nosing the surface and blowing lightly.

'See you. Know you.'

Water knew water and all of its life. Familiar. Not like land. The land was not familiar, Mizumi did not know it. Not properly like water. Much of the walking done to get to this place was on land, which was why much of the journey was not remembered.

Since leaving Helios's shrine, known better as the place of creation, Mizumi had always sought out places with water. Well, 'always' is less accurate than 'done nothing but', given that the only place before here was Eventide. Despite coming into existence in the light, there was something that was alluring about the darkness.

Secretive. Private. Serene.

Steps are taken once again, but feet never leave the water. There is no fear of the unknown, no worries or concerns to cloud the mind or heart. Just peaceful calm. Even within, the little fish with tails like ribbons of silk swim around in their slow dance, peaceful.

Mizumi didn't mind being alone, having only met a few others, but the common tongue was difficult to comprehend, making for slow responses that were little more than parroting for the most part. But being alone meant less exposure to speech, which meant learning was slow.

A soft yet content sigh leaves glowing blue lips as walking in silence continues for some time, until once again the creature comes to a stop, all ears moving steadily about to capture the strange sounds of the land.

'... is here?'

The dark was hardly a place to wander around these days. Yes, there were patches of places that were reminiscent of the world that used to be - where the land was trying to grow back, and fight what had been a losing battle. And apparently this is where Mizumi has entered his home, silent and moving as the water itself. Looking for food, Grimdark has left the relative safety of the camp, and headed down to the river.

In the dark, his hair now twisted and beaded around a firebird feather, he was now warmer than he has been, and the glow that lights his way shows more easily where he is in the dark. Gleamleaf has grown to be a dangerous place. But now healed, the scars of the cats on his body and the crystalline scars he still bears from his last encounter with them, Grimdark has learned much. And grown stronger. He had learned of the bacterial growth in certain parts of the river and how to find them. And that some parts of the river had as yet gone undisturbed by the ice. Grimdark heads for the last place he had been successful, needing to find food.

He comes across it rather unceremoniously - the average cat encounter is now the norm - lowering his head to drink from the clear, pristine water.

Raising his head, he hears something behind him, and immediately covers his body in camouflage. Black and grey to match the area around him. But the rustling was not from the land…. But rather… speaking. Small splashes that sounded almost melodic.

And then he sees it.

A neon aubergine color. Splashed with turquoise that was reminiscent of the world he knew.

She was quiet. Almost blissfully at peace despite the chaos going on around them. Grimdark tilts his head, before removing his camouflage and coming to stand at the river’s edge. Just looking at her.

At it.

Whatever it was he was looking at.

But safe to say, he was mesmerised.

Kagayaku Mizumi
The Luminescent Lake

'Is here... ' The mind-voice whispers to itself again, feeling there was most certainly something nearby that hadn't always been there now, and that solitude was no longer had. Yet, like everything else within the water in which feet began to move slowly once more, whatever this new entity was, it was somehow familiar.

Familiar, yet unfamiliar.

The lines of a curious frown seep into the strangely textured facial skin as the other creature stares, and so the walking comes to a halt once again as the distance between them was closed. What a strange sight this creature was to see.

Ocean. Salt and sand. Barnacles.

"Know you, but not know you." Mizumi speaks, words as soft and gentle as a siren, but with a strange sound to them as if the voice had come from beneath the water's surface, though are not gurgled as if choking. It is evident from the way in which the words are spoken that the luminescent creature does not have access to a full vocabulary of the common tongue, but attempts are made to communicate regardless, even if it is difficult.

The colourful head cocks to the side, the curious frown lines still there, "From water, but from land...?"

From Water, but from Land..?

Grimdark’s smell was very telling as to the affinity to which he held himself. Even if he looked normal… even if he were not a pirate, a captain… a Kraken… his skin was layered with the briny taste of the sea, and he was covered in its creatures - barnacles that made a home upon his copper and steel skin, the creatures that clung to him for life, a symbiotic relationship that made him one with the ocean that he loved so deeply. It was his mistress, his first love, his wife, the mother of his children - all these things and more. Imbris, being the Goddess of the sea, was bound to it, and he was bound to her. Isobell, in all her glory, had also been a sea creature that the inner workings of his monster had reached toward… and now… Vessel… with her grace and dignity had taken to him in the water. It was telling. Grimdark was a water creature.

And yet it had not always been so.

He was born on land, on an island, to a deranged mother and an absentee father… his twin sister had vanished with his mother almost as soon as they had been whelped out of Ea’s womb. And then Ea had died soon later. A life built on loneliness and grief, Grimdark had plunged himself into the sea, and had discovered that he could not die into the watery embrace of the grave that he had tried to commit himself to.

Life had much more in store for him.

All that he had done had led him here, to Gleamleaf and a leadership position he never thought he’d want. He’d eschewed any sort of responsibility. Caring only for himself and his needs. He never wanted to need or be needed - never wanted to put down roots. Never wanted to belong to anywhere.

Not before Gleamleaf.

And even now, it was not because he wanted to… but because he had to. Gleamleaf and its river ran inside his soul. It was his lifeblood, and simply the idea of not taking care of this jungle as his home had not occurred to him. It simply was. And some things do not need to be more complicated than that.

And so, when she (it?) looked at him, with those wide eyes and limited words…. He knew who she was. By sight. By smell. By soul.

She was Water. Water made flesh.

“I know you, too. I’d know you anywhere.” The voice was soft, airy… and yet it bubbled with life from within. It carried a salty air about it that was intoxicating to him. He wanted to know more. Needed to know more.

“How can this be real?” His eyes practically bulged out of his head, and he dropped all of his defenses. His tentacles went wild and he half shifted…. Becoming the Kraken. Becoming the thing she knew. The thing not from land. “How can you be real? Do you have a name?”

Struggle is an illusion. The tide rises, the tide falls, but the sea is changeless.

It is not the first time that there has been some semblance of confusion in another in regards to how this form came to be as it is. It is, in truth, a very fair question to wonder. Triple ears perk forward at his voice, his acknowledgement that he too shares the recognition, and a smile forms upon glowing lips.

It is as he speaks his question, wondering how water was given form and life, that he changes his own form, and the small smile grows into more of a grin. The fish trapped within spin around almost in a wild frenzy; in a way they act similar to a heartbeat, steady and calm for the most part but increasing in activity should something exciting occur.

'Kur...a...ke..n...'

This is the creature Mizumi recognised. Calmly, with the grace of water itself, Mizumi closes the gap between them by seemingly circling around him; not once did their bodies touch, but with the crisp air around them, it seemed to create the effect of being washed over with a gentle wave.

Feet stop once they have returned to face the other, a calm and almost motherly expression falls over the luminescent features, "Helios... Water flows in shrine," a brief but concise explanation to his repeated question is offered before a thoughtful look takes over for a brief moment as the word 'name' is silently mouthed.

The smile returns after a few seconds, "Mizumi. You are Kuraken... But not name."
